- ==================
-
- Many hypertext systems use a mouse for selecting information for
- detailed exploration. However, I prefer "arrow key browsing" of
- information, for the following reasons:
-
- (1) Arrow keys are faster than moving a mouse <link11>
- (2) Arrow keys are familiar to most computer users <link34>
- (3) Arrow keys require less physical effort than a mouse
- (4) Arrow keys require less hand/eye coordination <link11>
- (5) Arrow keys are easily learned in a minute
- (6) Arrow keys are sufficient for all operations
-
- Having built and used several hypertext systems with hypertext
- jumps exceeding 50,000 links <link10>, I do not believe a mouse is
- necessary or beneficial for text-based hypertext applications.
